HeyMath! Consultant: John

I have been working for HeyMath! for 3 and a bit years now - I started soon after finishing Part III at Cambridge and my current contract started in August 2005.
In that time the company has changed significantly. When I arrived there were maybe three customers in Singapore - one government school and two private schools. Most of the time was spent making new lessons (painfully slowly) and answering individual questions from students and teachers about the syllabus, maths projects etc.
The animations that were being made back then look terrible when compared to what we make now, as the company's outlook evolved. But it is important to remember that maths teachers were impressed by them even then - because we always had ex-teachers here who could highlight childrens' misunderstandings, and we would then try to focus in on a visual explanation.
Few of these animations remain on the site, and they are constantly being updated but we try to stick to the same overall goals. Often it is not easy for someone used to university level maths to stop and think about what might not be understood by someone else - so that will always be one important factor in our work.
Focus has shifted dramatically in the last 6 months or so to furthering our plans of global domination [ummm... pls delete this part- Ed.]
After quite sudden exposure in the US market we have got many customer schools and individuals in the US (fifth grade to 10th grade) as well as the Singapore numbers holding steady.
So priorities now include filling gaps in the US material, meeting with the new customers over there to understand what they want from the product, and adding more whizz to the website.
