HeyMath! Consultant: Charles

My first three months in Chennai have flown by. Time goes by very quickly when you combine an interesting and rewarding job with a lively city, and opportunities to travel!
At work I've enjoyed collaborating with animators and audio producers to create fun (and sometimes funny) maths lessons. It's great to see my disorganised jumble of ideas slowly crystallise into high-quality animations.
Outside the office, I've greatly enjoyed getting to know the city. I've already appeared in the newspapers twice - singing at karaoke evenings, not in the 'most wanted' section - and on national television, singing gospel-style Christmas carols with the choir at my church here. A lot of music and theatre festivals happen in the cool December-January season, and I've been lucky enough to go to some mind-blowing performances. It's also been amusing watching my boss's (so far unsuccessful) attempts to sort out my love life!
Later this year I'll start training to be a maths teacher, and my time at HeyMath! feels like very good preparation - I've experienced a range of different curricula and have to put myself in the shoes of a student every day. In fact, the job feels a lot like teaching, but without having paper aeroplanes thrown at me by the naughty kids at the back of the class!
I've often heard it said that many of the jobs people do today hadn't even been invented when they were kids. The way we live is changing fast, and so is the way we learn. e-learning is the future of education: like it or not, smartboards and computers are here to stay. A job at HeyMath is a great opportunity to make your mark on the students of tomorrow, and to challenge yourself in ways you never thought possible. What are you waiting for?
